The Workshop Foreman is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the daily operations of the workshop, including supervising workshop teams, managing maintenance and repair activities, and ensuring the proper functioning of all workshop equipment and tools. The Workshop Foreman will monitor and control workshop activities, assist in Driver management, inventory control, and ensure compliance with safety and operational standards. The Workshop Foreman will report to the Fleet Manager to ensure effective fleet operations and shall be flexible to work in the field and in Harare when required.
• Oversee and ensure all repairs are carried out to the correct standard and only safe and reliable vehicles are allowed to be used
• Oversee and coordinate all workshop maintenance and repair activities to ensure smooth operations
• Supervise and support workshop technicians and field parts stores in daily tasks
• Ensure compliance with The Halo Trust's policies and local regulations for all maintenance and repair work
• Schedule regular maintenance and repair activities, minimizing vehicle downtime and ensuring operational efficiency
• Maintain accurate and detailed records of all equipment repairs, maintenance schedules, and inspections
• Ensure workshop safety standards are followed and provide guidance on safe work practices
• Collaborate with the Fleet Manager to coordinate vehicle servicing, repair, and maintenance
• Coordinate the movement of vehicles between locations as needed to ensure fleet readiness
• Assist the Fleet Manager in ensuring that vehicle safety assessments are conducted and properly documented
• Assist the Fleet Manager with accident investigations, collecting relevant information and providing technical support
• Assist in ensuring that all vehicles have proper documentation such as licensing, registration, and insurance
• Train drivers on basic vehicle maintenance to ensure safe and efficient operations
• Monitor the usage and maintenance of workshop tools and equipment, ensuring proper functioning
• Develop strategies to improve operational efficiency within the workshop, optimizing resource allocation and reducing costs
• Compile timeously parts required for repairs and communicate with the Fleet Manager to ensure timely procurement
• Maximize internal repairs to cut costs and reduce dependency on external services
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff, ensuring continuous improvement in their skills
• Implement quality control measures to ensure all maintenance work meets the highest standards
• Produce reports as required, detailing workshop performance, maintenance activities, and issues that need attention
• Ensure all equipment meets the necessary environmental, health, and safety standards
• Identify training and development opportunities for mechanics to address skills gaps and reduce outsourcing of tasks
• 1-3 years of experience in managing workshop operations, vehicle maintenance, repair, and related equipment
• Class 1 Journeyman Qualification or equivalent certification and at least a Class 2 Drivers license
• Certification in Transport and logistics is an advantage
• Proven record in managing a technical team and maintaining high-quality standards in workshop environments
• Strong knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repair processes
• Experience working on Toyota Landcruiser, DAF vehicles. Case, JCB and Hitachi machines
• Experience with workshop tools, equipment, and safety standards
• Proficient in Microsoft Office for reporting and record-keeping
• Familiarity with automotive repair management systems (Desirable)
• Ability to manage workshops in multiple locations to ensure consistent operations
• Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
