Job Description

Diocese of Mutare Community Care Programme (DOMCCP) is a nonprofit community based organisation operating in Manicaland Province since 1992. Its mission is to empower communities to own their development for sustainability and improved standards of life. A vacancy has arisen for a Project Officer for a WASH project being run by the organisation in Mutare and Chipinge Districts. The Project Officer will be expected to carry out the following:

• Conduct routine operational checks on all project boreholes and ensure that they are in good working order all the time
• Liaise and coordinate with waterpoint committees, local leadership, Village Pump Mechanics (VPMs) and Technicians from the Rural Infrastructure Development Agency (RIDA) for the speedy repair of broken-down boreholes
• Participate in preparation of project work plans, designs and implement them within the stipulated project timeframes.
• Provide technical support and capacity building to communities in the use of WASH technologies meant to support improvement of safe and affordable water and sanitation and good hygiene practices in the project target areas.
• Participate in community design sessions for appropriate WASH design options based on local contexts.
• Coordinate and support supporting training of waterpoint committees and VPMs to ensure that they are able to carry out their responsibilities effectively
• Implementation project activities as per the provided project budget and deliver expected results.
• Actively participate in all field meetings, deliberations, project site visits and workshops which address or are related to project activities.
• Prepare project activity and progress reports and ensure timely submission to management and funding partner.
• Document project reports, project ideas, meaningful/case stories of change and lessons learnt.
• Training of community to create awareness and sensitize for community ownership of the project.
• Contribute to rapid assessment, baseline surveys and monitoring and evaluation of project (s) to ensure achievement of desired project outputs.
• Oversee mapping, selection and repair of selected water sources/facilities.
• Supervision of construction works and ensuring quality construction/rehabilitation of WASH infrastructure by contractors.
• Support in managing relationship with communities and other local stakeholders.
• Coordinate and support the carrying out of project related surveys and research
• Ensuring adherence to legal requirement, health and safety requirements.
• Mobilize community members through their leaderships for water source ownership and maintenance.
• Represent the project at various fora and meetings, including full council meetings, District Water and sanitation sub-committes (DWSSC) and at meetings with other WASH partners.
• Lead projects focused on carbon reduction, biodiversity net gain, and nature recovery.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications and Experience
• Degree/Diploma in Civil Engineering, Environmental Health, Development Studies or any other related qualification from a recognized institution
• At least two (2) years experience working in the NGO sector.
• Clean class 4 driving license and the ability to drive manual vehicles (candidates who come for interviews will be tested)
• Experience working with and mobilising communities through their local leaderships
• Familiarity with borehole functionality and repairs will be an added advantage
• Ability to develop work plans and budgets
• Knowledge of WASH and environmental health management
• Experience working with Rural district councils and RIDA will be an added advantage
• Basic computer knowledge using microsoft excel, word and power point plus experience using other digital applications like KOBO
