1. Lead the design of a landscape research study to understand the gender data and decision-making ecosystem. This includes the development of a research protocol and submission for ethics review and approval.
2. Conduct an in-depth literature review to inform the design of the research protocol above.
3. Host a validation meeting with key stakeholders to review the emerging research results in order to enrich the study findings.
4. Prepare a work plan for the assignment with a clear methodology and timeline.
5. Design appropriate data collection tools and techniques.
6. Collect data to identify key barriers and provide a report with key findings and recommendations to address the existing gender inequalities.
7. Prepare media promotion tools with key messages to address gender inequality and how it intersects with other inequalities on the grounds of age, disability status, beliefs, social status etc.
8. Report on assignment, Lead data collection, analysis and report writing.
Under the overall supervision of the Project Manager and other project staff, the Consultant will be responsible for the following tasks:
● Develop a detailed gender analysis to further identify existing gaps and barriers in Nemakonde concerning policies and social barriers to women’s participation, leadership and decision making and gender equality in landscape governance and community development. This analysis will be integrated into strategies aimed at mainstreaming gender in project implementation.
● Examine and assess the impact of different proposed interventions in the project on people with disabilities, women and other vulnerable individuals in the Nemakonde community. It will examine the different capabilities, interests, vulnerabilities, roles and needs, disparities and social stigmas, examine why they exist and how best to address them.
● To review Nature+ documents (proposal and concept note, etc) to establish barriers that hinder access to quality services for people with disabilities, women and other vulnerable members of the Nemakonde community.
● Examine existing manuals for any adjustments.
● Present the findings to the Project manager and other project staff.
The Consultant/Team must be in possession of the following academic qualifications and experience.
Qualifications:
Academic Degree in Gender Studies, Development Studies, Law, Social Sciences and other related qualifications. A Master’s Degree will be considered as an asset.
Skills and competencies:
● A minimum of 5 years practical experience in the field of gender equality and gender mainstreaming.
● Formal training in gender analysis and gender planning, demonstrated expertise is masculinities and gender.
● Thorough understanding of the gender context in Zimbabwe.
● Familiarity with gender analysis tools and methodologies in Zimbabwe.
● Strong communication skills and ablity to liaise with various stakeholders, including government officials.
● Computer skills: full command of Microsoft applications (word , excel, Power Point) and Zoom. The consultant should have basic skills and experience in social conflicts management and public consultation facilitation.
● Excellent writing, presentation and interpersonal skills; and excellent analytical skills and ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders. Fluency in English and Ndau languages.
● The Consultant should have a proven professional background of working in rural community landscape areas.
