Our client in Zambia is looking for a Zimbabwean Solar Engineer and Project manager responsible for both the technical and managerial aspects of solar energy projects. This dual role involves overseeing the engineering design, ensuring technical accuracy, and managing project timelines, budgets, and teams to deliver successful solar energy installations. The position requires a deep understanding of solar technologies, project management practices, and the ability to lead cross-functional teams from project inception to completion.
Key Responsibilities:
Engineering & Design:
-Lead the design and engineering of solar PV systems, including system sizing, component selection, and layout design.
-Conduct site assessments to evaluate solar potential and identify potential obstacles.
-Prepare technical specifications, drawings, and electrical schematics for solar installations.
-Perform energy production modeling and analysis using softwares like PVsyst, Helioscope, or equivalent software.
-Ensure designs comply with local, state,, as well as industry standards
Project Management:
-Develop comprehensive project plans, including schedules, budgets, resource allocation, and risk management strategies.
-Coordinate and manage all phases of the project lifecycle, from initial concept and design through permitting, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
-Monitor project progress against key milestones, adjusting plans as necessary to stay on schedule and within budget.
-Liaise with clients, stakeholders, contractors, and suppliers to ensure clear communication and alignment on project goals.
Team Leadership:
- Lead and mentor a team of engineers, technicians, and other project staff.
- Assign tasks and responsibilities to team members, ensuring that everyone is working towards common objectives.
-Foster a collaborative and productive work environment, encouraging continuous learning and improvement.
Quality Assurance & Compliance:
- Implement and enforce quality control procedures to ensure high standards in design, construction, and commissioning.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits to verify compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee the testing and commissioning of solar systems to ensure they meet performance and safety standards.
Budget & Cost Management:
-Manage project budgets, including cost estimation, tracking, and reporting.
-Negotiate contracts with suppliers, subcontractors, and service providers to secure favorable terms.
-Identify and implement cost-saving measures without compromising quality or performance.
Client & Stakeholder Relations:
-Serve as clients' primary point of contact, ensuring their needs and expectations are met throughout the project.
-Provide regular updates to clients and stakeholders on project status, including progress reports, budget updates, and any issues or changes.
-Resolve any disputes or challenges that arise during the project promptly and professionally.
Documentation & Reporting:
-Maintain detailed project documentation, including design files, contracts, permits, and reports.
-Prepare and present project status reports to senior management and stakeholders.
-Ensure all project documentation is completed and archived according to company standards.
Continuous Improvement & Innovation:
-Stay informed about the latest advancements in solar technology, materials, and methods.
-Identify opportunities for innovation in design, construction, and project management.
- Contribute to the development of new services, products, or processes that enhance the company’s offerings.
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or a related field.
-Experience: 3-5 years of experience in solar engineering and project management, with a proven track record of successfully delivering solar projects.
