Job Summary:
The position exists to execute the school’s mandate as stipulated in the ZSM Charter, coordinating, developing, evaluating, and executing Zimbabwe School of Mines policies and procedures that will ensure the health and safety of faculty, staff, students and visitors; environmental compliance and protection; and quality assurance of the School’s SHEQ management system as directed by the principal.

Duties and Responsibilities
The candidate must
Provide reports to department and management teams on a monthly basis.
Develop, evaluates and maintains general SHEQ systems
Developing, coordinating, training and providing professional consultation and technical expertise associated with quality, environmental, health and occupational safety matters
Provides reports as required by the Principal
Participates in the development of Safety, Health, Environment and Quality management internal policies, procedures and working practices at the Zimbabwe School of Mines
Participates in the development and implementation of an institution-wide emergency preparedness and response policy, procedure and plan
Produces SHEQ management related reports, newsletters and bulletins
Advises on environmental, health and safety aspects in the planning and execution of ZSM events
Conducts regular ZSM site, facility and laboratory inspections to ensure adherence to SHEQ policies and procedures
Maintains an up to date legal register for SHEQ matters relating to ZSM operations
Oversees waste management activities at the ZSM
Performs quality assurance of ZSM enrolment, exams, academic and related processes
Conducts risk assessments and develops strategies for management of safety, health and environmental risks
Performs periodic audits of the SHEQ management system
Identifies SHEQ related training needs/deficiencies and priorities for training of departments and programs
Qualifications and Experience
Five years of relevant professional experience in the field of Industrial Hygiene or Occupational Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality management are also required, of which two years should be in academia.
Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Pollution Science, Chemistry, Engineering or a related field.
Experience performing the duties of the position may substitute for the degree requirement on a year for year basis.
SHEQ experience in a lead or project management role is desirable.
Practical experience in development and implementation of ISO 14001, ISO 9001, ISO 45001, ISO 17025, ISO 21001 and ISO 17025.
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Financial awareness and experience of resource allocation and planning and monitoring performance against targets.
Strong knowledge of the national political and socio-economic landscape of Zimbabwe.
Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence and negotiate effectively.
Demonstrable skills to inspire and engage people in the development of ideas and delivery of collaborative or strategic projects.
Experience of delivering successful projects within or between departments or collaborative activities.
Experience in curriculum development, managing examinations and lecturing mining related courses up to HND level.
Experience of developing new business opportunities through enterprise, commercial and/or knowledge exchanges.
Should have Advanced Research Skills.
In-depth understanding of higher education sector.
