Risk and Compliance Manager

Job Description

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the position exists to perform an independent review function for the SMEDCO on all matters pertaining to Risk Management and Compliance on all financial and public sector laws and regulations and internal policies in order to maximize the enterprise-wide risk return trade off.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Providing a holistic perspective and analysis of the measurement and management of financial and non-financial risks.
2. Ensuring compliance to the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe regulatory requirements and Code of Banking practice.
3. Developing, implementing, and monitoring compliance activities to satisfy regulatory legislative and corporate requirements.
4. Checking and reviews internal processes and systems through onsite and offsite inspections and making recommendations to Executive Management to mitigate the risk.
5. Keeping abreast with new developments affecting the financial sectors as a tool of developing new policies through market research and intelligence information gathering
6. Introducing a culture of risk management supported by policies and guidelines.
7. Providing advice and expertise to clients, Board and Management on regulatory and governance matters
8. Evaluating and vetting credit risk given by all lending arms.
9. Monitoring the Corporation’s trading and funding position in order to gauge its ability to meet short-term obligations

Qualifications and Experience

• A degree in Risk Management/ Banking/Accounting/Finance or equivalent from a recognized University
• Membership of a relevant professional board is an added advantage
• A minimum of 7 years’ relevant working experience
Knowledge and skills requirements

• Sound experience in risk management and compliance systems
• Strong knowledge of legal and regulatory framework
