Job Title: Project Manager - Skills 2 Live
Reporting to: Country Director
Location: Chitungwiza, Zimbabwe (with travels from time to time)
Purpose of Job: Key point of responsibility for implementation of the Skills 2 Live project. Is responsible for planning, implementation, personnel management, resource management, monitoring & evaluation, associated stakeholder and partner relationship management, timely and quality reporting
Contract Period: One year (with possibility of extension based on funding)
Start Date: January 2024
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Project Manager is tasked with oversight of the implementation of the Skills 2 Live project in Zimbabwe. The project seeks to foster youth employment and entrepreneurship as well as promoting gender equality and equity. Our approach will aim at economically empowering young people who are HIV positive or at risk of contracting the virus through technical vocational education training (TVET), integrated with entrepreneurship and life skills education.

The Project Manager is the key point of responsibility for implementation of the Skills 2 Live project. Is responsible for planning, implementation, personnel management, resource management, monitoring & evaluation, associated stakeholder and partner relationship management, timely and quality reporting. Should ensure quality of the project activities/results including as necessary coordinating external technical support/expertise. The project manager will directly supervise officers based outside Harare. Will have technical background in Sexual and reproductive health and rights education, Technical Vocational Education Training, livelihood projects, Entrepreneurship development including linkages with formal financial service providers. Will have oversight of the relationship with the respective district stakeholders

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Project implementation, oversight and development
• Leads the implementation of the Skills to Live project
• Develops work plans, budgets and progress reports as required by the organization, donors and other partners
• Maintains relationships with current and potential funding sponsors and networks with other youth serving NGOs to create a network of youth serving NGOs in which peer-learning and experience-sharing can occur.
• Ensures full implementation of Young Africa’s post-graduation support toolbox to the realization of employment and or entrepreneurship.
2. Communication & Monitor and Evaluation
• Represents organization to NGO partners, government departments, funding sources, other partners, beneficiaries, and at conferences and other outreach opportunities.
• Ensures monitoring and evaluation activities and reporting meet donor standards, and are completed on schedule.
• Reviews and finalizes program reports
3. Financial management and grant oversight
• Responsible for implementing activities in accordance with project or activity budgets.
• Consults with project Finance and Administration Manager regarding best practices for financial administration of project work.
• Develops and monitors the grant agreements and sub-agreements for project partners
4. Other
• Assists in the implementation of other projects activities in the Zimbabwe, as needed
• Supports the YA Zimbabwe Country Director in various administrative tasks.

RELATIONSHIPS
• Reports to Country Director.
• Coordinates closely with the project’s Lead Partner,
• Provides support and interacts with the Business Development Officer, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, and other key program staff.
• Communicates as needed with Lead Partner team and support staff.

Qualifications and Experience

• An advanced degree in the social sciences, or other related degree
• 5+ years of experience managing youth health, economic empowerment, and/or international development projects.
• Proven project management skills with experience managing multiple projects.
• Strong interpersonal skills and mentoring skills to work effectively with partners/clients.
• A track record that demonstrates energy and creativity, and the ability to successfully prioritize and manage competing priorities.
• Demonstrated success in project planning, financial management, program monitoring, report writing, and identifying and procuring technical assistance.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking and presentation skills.
• Experience in data processing (Microsoft Word), spreadsheet (Microsoft Excel), E-mail, and Internet browser software.
• A clean class 4 driver’s licence.
