Job Summary
Zinc Limited is seeking an experienced and results-driven Production Manager to oversee and coordinate all manufacturing and production activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that production targets are achieved efficiently, safely, cost-effectively, and to the required quality standards.
The Production Manager will lead production teams, coordinate manufacturing schedules, monitor production performance, manage resources, minimize waste and downtime, and ensure that all products are manufactured according to approved specifications and customer requirements.
The role requires strong technical knowledge of metal fabrication and manufacturing processes, excellent leadership abilities, sound problem-solving skills, and a strong commitment to workplace safety and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
1. Production Planning and Management
Plan, coordinate, and supervise daily, weekly, and monthly production activities.
Develop production schedules based on customer orders, available resources, and delivery requirements.
Ensure production targets are achieved within agreed deadlines.
Allocate manpower, machinery, materials, and other resources effectively.
Monitor production progress and make adjustments where necessary.
Coordinate multiple production projects while maintaining operational efficiency.
Ensure production processes are properly documented and followed.
2. Team Leadership and Supervision
Lead, motivate, and manage production supervisors, technicians, fabricators, welders, machine operators, and other production personnel.
Establish clear performance expectations and production objectives for employees.
Monitor employee productivity and provide appropriate coaching and support.
Identify training and skills-development requirements within the production team.
Promote teamwork, discipline, accountability, and professional conduct.
Participate in recruitment and selection of production personnel when required.
Conduct or support employee performance evaluations.
3. Quality Control
Ensure all manufactured products meet Zinc Limited's quality standards and customer specifications.
Work closely with the Quality Assurance and Quality Control teams to identify and resolve quality issues.
Monitor production processes to reduce defects, rework, and rejected products.
Investigate the causes of production defects and implement corrective actions.
Ensure proper inspection and testing procedures are followed.
Promote a culture of quality throughout the production department.
4. Machinery and Equipment Management
Ensure production machinery and equipment are operated correctly and efficiently.
Coordinate with the maintenance team to minimize equipment breakdowns and production downtime.
Monitor machine performance and identify potential maintenance requirements.
Ensure operators follow appropriate equipment operating procedures.
Recommend upgrades, replacement, or acquisition of production equipment where necessary.
Ensure machinery is used safely and within manufacturer specifications.
5. Materials and Inventory Management
Monitor the availability and usage of raw materials, including ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
Coordinate with procurement and stores departments to ensure timely availability of production materials.
Minimize material wastage, scrap, and unnecessary consumption.
Ensure appropriate storage and handling of raw materials and finished products.
Monitor material usage against production requirements and approved budgets.
6. Health, Safety and Environmental Compliance
Ensure all production activities comply with company health and safety policies.
Promote a safe working environment throughout the manufacturing facility.
Ensure employees use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Identify and address workplace hazards and unsafe practices.
Investigate production-related accidents and incidents where required.
Ensure employees receive appropriate safety training.
Support environmental initiatives relating to waste management, emissions, recycling, and responsible use of materials.
7. Cost and Efficiency Management
Monitor production costs and identify opportunities for cost reduction.
Minimize waste, downtime, overtime, rework, and inefficient use of resources.
Implement lean manufacturing and continuous improvement practices where appropriate.
Monitor key production performance indicators.
Recommend process improvements that increase productivity and profitability.
Ensure production activities remain within approved budgets.
8. Maintenance and Downtime Reduction
Work closely with maintenance personnel to develop effective preventive maintenance schedules.
Monitor equipment downtime and investigate recurring machinery problems.
Ensure breakdowns are addressed promptly to minimize disruption to production.
Maintain accurate records of equipment performance and production downtime.
Participate in root-cause analysis for recurring production and equipment issues.
9. Reporting and Performance Monitoring
Prepare regular production reports for senior management.
Monitor production output against targets.
Track productivity, downtime, waste, quality defects, and delivery performance.
Provide management with accurate information regarding production capacity and challenges.
Recommend corrective actions where production targets are not being achieved.
Maintain accurate production records and documentation.
10. Continuous Improvement
Identify opportunities to improve manufacturing processes and operational efficiency.
Introduce practical improvements to production workflows and procedures.
Encourage employees to contribute ideas for improving productivity and quality.
Support the implementation of lean manufacturing, 5S, process optimization, and other continuous improvement initiatives.
Keep up to date with developments in metal manufacturing, fabrication technologies, and production management practices.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or diploma in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Production Management, or a related field.
Relevant professional or technical qualifications in manufacturing or metal fabrication will be an advantage.
Additional qualifications in production management, operations management, or lean manufacturing are desirable.
Relevant health and safety training will be an added advantage.
Required Experience
Minimum of 5 years' experience in production or manufacturing management, preferably within a metal fabrication, engineering, automotive, construction, or industrial manufacturing environment.
Demonstrated experience managing production teams and manufacturing processes.
Experience working with metal fabrication, welding, machining, cutting, forming, or related manufacturing processes.
Experience with production planning, scheduling, quality control, and resource management.
Proven experience reducing production downtime, waste, and operational costs.
Experience using production management systems, ERP software, or related manufacturing technology is advantageous.

Working Conditions
The Production Manager will primarily work within a manufacturing and fabrication environment and will be required to spend significant time on the production floor.
