Nature Positive Food Systems Program (NPFS) Manager

Job Description

To work under the direction of the NPFS Africa lead, the NPFS program manager (Chimanimani) serves as operational lead for the NPFS programming in Chimanimani, working with and providing logistical support to the Chimanimani coordinating committee.

This position is based in Chimanimani, Zimbabwe. Given the international nature of the program, this position will require flexibility in daily hours. Frequent domestic and regional/international travel, including rural travel with limited amenities, will be required.

Primary Working Relationships:

The NPFS program manager (Chimanimani) is responsible to the NPFS Africa lead. The NPFS program manager (Chimanimani) will also work closely with other NPFS staff members (across Africa and in Canada) as well as program partners and stakeholders in Zimbabwe and Mozambique.

Duties and Responsibilities

Roles and Responsibilities

1. NPFS Chimanimani Management & Coordination – The NPFS program manager (Chimanimani) will work closely with the NPFS Africa lead to support regional programming within the Chimanimani region of Zimbabwe and Mozambique. This will include:
1.1. NPFS Chimanimani Leadership –work collaboratively with program partners, members, and other stakeholders to ensure effective coordination and collaboration of program activities. [A]
1.2. NPFS Chimanimani Management - Provide managerial and technical oversight to members and partners. Manage all NPFS Program operations according to the agreed upon Program Implementation Plan (PIP), Results Based Management (RBM) tools, and work plan. Troubleshoot, as needed, to prevent disruptions in daily program activities. [A]
1.3. NPFS Chimanimani Support – provide logistical support for program operations and collaborate with and assist sub-contractors and technical partners.
1.4. NPFS Chimanimani Coordinating Committee – assist with the development of and provide logistical support to the NPFS Chimanimani coordinating committee [A]
1.5. Financial Management – administer a Chimanimani budget for program activities as approved by the NPFS Africa Lead; monitor Chimanimani program expenditures [A]
1.6. Planning - facilitate the development of annual NPFS Chimanimani work plans [AAC]
1.7. Reporting - ensure regular reporting as required for program implementation (activity reports, conference summaries, etc.). [A]

2. NPFS Chimanimani Networking & Development – The NPFS program manager (Chimanimani) will contribute to building and strengthening local and regional and networks to further the adoption of NPFS and Nature Based Solutions (NBS) practice within Chimanimani. This will include:
2.1. NPFS Chimanimani Community of Practice: lead on the development and facilitation of a Chimanimani Nature Based Solutions (NBS) Community of Practice. Document best practices and share across Nature+ partners and the CoP. [A&I]
2.2. NPFS Chimanimani Networking: Network with national level NBS related government ministries and technical groups, national and international research associations, social enterprises, and NGOs and foster collaboration and coordination with these groups as warranted. [A&I]
2.3. NPFS Chimanimani Representation: Represent the NPFS program and its collective expertise at conferences and forums and ensure learnings from these forums are disseminated throughout the program and the broader Foodgrains Bank network. [A&I]
2.4. NPFS Chimanimani Hosting: Organize and host visitors and sub-contractors to the program. [A]

3. Program Technical Support– The NPFS program manager (Chimanimani) will work with program stakeholders (members, partners, and technical organizations) to strengthen the capacity of the Foodgrains Bank network in Nature Positive Food Systems programming in Chimanimani. This includes:
3.1. Technical Support Provision: Upon request, and depending on the specific skills and expertise of the NPFS program manager (Chimanimani) provide technical support to Africa based partners [A]
3.2. Technical Support Coordination: Coordinate the provision of partner technical support based on an inventory of program stakeholder (program, partner, member, and technical partner staff) skills. [A]

4. Other Duties
4.1. Participate in international program team meetings and events.
4.2. Other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the NPFS Africa Lead.

Qualifications and Experience

Education:
• An undergraduate degree in natural resource management, conservation, climate change, or other relevant field and a minimum of 10 years professional experience required; or an advanced degree in a relevant field and a minimum of 6 years of professional experience required.

Experience:
• Experience in fields relevant to biodiversity conservation and sustainable development, including nature-based solutions, sustainable infrastructure, natural capital and ecosystem services, landscape scale planning; and excellent understanding of international conservation, climate, and sustainable development issues, especially nature-based solutions, climate risk management, climate resilience, sustainable infrastructure, and systems change.
• Experience and skills in establishing good working relationships/networking with appropriate national and regional government partners, agencies, and groups to ensure effective program implementation.

• Excellent facilitation and mediation skills.
• Demonstrated program management skills and ability.
• Capacity to manage and oversee a budget.
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Ability to positively manage complex organizational relationships
• Fluency in English and Shona
• A commitment to Foodgrains Bank’s mission and Christian motivation and active involvement in a Christian faith community

Assets:
• Valid Zimbabwean/Mozambican driver’s license
• Fluency in Portuguese
• Fluency in English
• Understanding of a food systems approach
• Experience working with Canadian government-funded programs
