Mechanical Fitter

Job Description

The incumbent will be responsible for Installations, testing, commissioning and maintenance of mechanical equipment for both plant in service as well as project works.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs installations, functionality tests, and performance tests of mechanical equipment.
• Responds to faulty emergency and makes timely repairs.
• Performs equipment condition monitoring, preventative and corrective maintenance.
• Assists in raising requisition for the spare parts when the need arises.
• Completes in detail, all issued work orders for assigned tasks.
• Maintains records of equipment repairs, and tests.
• Ensures compliance with statutory obligations as well as international best practice standards.
• Complies with all Safety, Health, and Environmental regulations in area of responsibility.
• Trains and supervises subordinates, apprentices, assistants and students.

Qualifications and Experience

1. Education and Experience.
• Minimum National Certificate in relevant trade.
• Class 1 Skilled Worker Certificate.
• 5 O’ Levels including Maths, and English.
• At least 2 years post apprenticeship training.
• Thermal power plant experience is added advantage.


2. Certifications
• Clean Class 4 (four) driver’s licence is an added advantage.

3. Desired Competences
• Working knowledge of turbo-machinery, conveyor systems, fans & ducts, vacuum systems, gearboxes, compressed air systems, and pressure vessels.
• Good Team player
• Good analytical skills, communication and technical skills.
• Able to work with minimum supervision
