LAB TECHNICIAN – DAIRY OPERATIONS
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Lab Assistant – Dairy Operations to join our team. Reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor, the successful applicant will, among other key duties, be responsible for:

Duties and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities
• Collect and prepare milk samples from production batches or external suppliers.
• Ensure proper labeling and documentation of samples to maintain traceability.
• Perform chemical, microbiological, and physical tests on milk samples,
including fat content analysis, protein and lactose content tests, pH and acidity
testing, bacterial counts, detection of pathogens and antibiotic residue testing.
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as spectrophotometers, pH
meters, and microbiological testing kits.
• Analyse results and report any deviations from quality standards to the
Laboratory Supervisor.
• Ensure all data is compliant with industry standards and regulatory
requirements.
• Prepare and submit test reports to management.
• Adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs), food safety standards and
follow all safety and hygiene regulations
• Assist in the calibration and maintenance of lab equipment to ensure accurate
test results.
• Maintain an adequate inventory of materials and supplies used in the
laboratory.
• Participate in proficiency testing and external quality assessments.
• Contribute to ISO 17025 certification efforts.
• Ensure all tests comply with local regulatory standards for dairy product safety.
• Collaborate closely with production teams to ensure the quality of the products.
• Assist in training junior laboratory staff or interns on proper testing protocols.

Qualifications and Experience

Minimum Qualifications & Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or a
related field.
• 5 “O” Levels including English Language and Mathematics.
• 2 years proven experience in dairy or food operations.
Attributes
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in testing and record-keeping.
• Knowledge of dairy industry standards and testing methodologies.
• Familiarity with laboratory safety protocols and procedures.
• Good communication and teamwork skills
