terre des hommes schweiz supports the empowerment of young people in Africa, Latin America and Switzerland. Joining forces with them, we fight poverty, violence and discrimination and advocate for the rights of children and youth as well as fair North-South relations. Our core competences lie in participatory and solution-focused work with young people. In southern-Africa, we are working, mainly, in the field of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SHR), including gender-based violence (GBV), with a portfolio spanning over 4 countries in Zimbabwe, South Africa, Mozambique and Tanzania.
To this end, our organization has jointly developed a Community of Practice in SHR (called the Knowledge Hub) with another international NGO working in Southern and West Africa. The Community of Practice in SHR brings together an active community that involves both professionals and youth (activists) to share insights and lessons learnt, and to document, synthesise and thereby create knowledge with the goal of empowering on Health and Gender Equality. This will be achieved by bringing together practitioners and youth workers to create a space for a structured reflection on good practices in order to enhance the effectiveness of mutual initiatives in the domain of SHR and gender-sensitive youth empowerment.
To facilitate the activities of this Community of Practice as well as to support the Southern African
SHR programme in Zimbabwe, South Africa, Mozambique and Tanzania, we are recruiting for the position of a Knowledge Hub Coordinator, suitable for a programme management professional who seeks to grow in the world of development work.
Starting from 1st of July 2024, or upon agreement, we seek to employ a Knowledge Hub Coordinator for Southern Africa, to be based in our office in Harare.
About the Position: Knowledge Hub Coordinator 100%
The Knowledge Hub Coordinator is part of a cluster team in southern Africa and oversees the implementation of the organisation's learning and exchange activities within the region in Southern Africa and across regions with West Africa. She/he reports directly to the co-Desk SRHR based in the Harare office. The KHC is involved in regular exchange with her/his counterpart based in West Africa.
All responsibilities below happen within a physical, hybrid or virtual set up.
Your responsibilities:
• Supporting Knowledge Sharing: The primary purpose of the Knowledge Hub is to facilitate the sharing of knowledge and best practices among partner organisations of terre des hommes schweiz as well as with other relevant practitioners in the field of SRHR. The coordinator/facilitator plays a key role in encouraging members to share their expertise, documenting valuable insights, and making knowledge accessible to the entire community.
• Planning: The Knowledge Hub Coordinator leads and facilitates the planning processes for the CoP initiatives with partners in Zimbabwe, Tanzania, South Africa and Mozambique.
• Providing Learning Opportunities: The Knowledge Hub Coordinator is responsible for identifying learning needs within the Community of Practice and organizing activities, such as workshops, training sessions, and guest presentations, and documentation processes to address these needs. They achieve this, mainly, through facilitating peer learning initiatives, where members can learn from each other's experiences
• Facilitating Communication and Collaboration: The coordinator/facilitator is responsible for fostering open communication and collaboration within the community in the four countries. This involves organizing regular meetings, setting agendas, moderating discussions, and ensuring that partner organisations have the opportunity to share knowledge and experiences. She/he is responsible for ongoing regular exchange with the counterpart in West Africa.
• Building and Maintaining Relationships: Building a sense of belonging and trust among partners is essential for the success of the Knowledge Hub. The Knowledge Hub Coordinator works to build and maintain relationships with Directors, practitioners and youth from partner organisations, helping to create a supportive and inclusive community where individuals feel valued and respected.
• Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting: The Knowledge Hub Coordinator monitors the effectiveness of community activities, gathers feedback from members, and identifies areas for improvement. They may lead periodic internal evaluations to measure the impact of the CoP on organizational goals and objectives.
• Involved in Programme co-Design: As part of a cluster team, the position requires close coordination with the co-leads of the programme and the different national office teams in designing, implementing and assessing the programme.
Your qualification and experience:
• Must be a holder of a master's degree in relevant fields of study or an equivalent level of education from a recognised institution.
• At least 5 years' work experience in project management, especially in the field of SRHR for a reputable non-governmental organization.
• Experience in an international donor environment coordinating activities of local partners an added advantage.
• Excellent spoken and written English skills; ability to speak French and other languages is an added advantage.
• Experience in knowledge management design and/or facilitating similar communities of practice in physical and hybrid settings is preferred.
Affinity for social media and online tools.
Experience in conducting social sciences research, preferably in the fields of SHR and gender is an added advantage.
