Internal Control Assistant

Job Description

The Internal Control Assistant supports the Internal Control Officer in assessing and enhancing internal control frameworks. This role involves assisting in audits, conducting risk assessments, and collaborating with various departments to ensure compliance with policies and regulations. The Assistant also contributes to training initiatives and promotes a culture of accountability within the organization

Duties and Responsibilities

Internal Control Development and Compliance
• Assist in the development and implementation of internal control frameworks, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
• Monitor compliance with internal policies and procedures, reporting any violations or concerns to the Internal Control Officer.
• Stay informed about changes in regulations and industry standards related to internal controls and risk management.

Risk Assessment and Audit
• Support the Internal Control Officer in conducting risk assessments and internal control reviews.
• Assisting with the development of annual internal audit plans for review by the Internal Control Officer
• Assist in performing internal audits and testing procedures to verify the accuracy of financial and operational information.
• Filing working papers, audit findings, observations, and recommendations in audit reports.

Training, Collaboration, and Investigations
• Provide support in training employees on internal control principles and procedures.
• Collaborate with managers and process owners to identify and address control deficiencies.
• Assist in investigations of suspected fraud or misconduct, documenting findings and recommending preventive measures.

Qualifications and Experience

1. Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration
2. Strong understanding of internal control principles, practices, and frameworks
3. At least 1-year proven experience in administrative support and entry level auditing roles is preferred.
4. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and reporting
5. Membership in relevant professional bodies (e.g., CIA, CISA, CPA) is a plus but not required
