Instruments and Control Technician

Job Description

The incumbent will be responsible for Installing, calibrating, testing, commissioning and maintenance of a wide variety of industrial instrumentation such as load cells, control valves, transmitters, level controlling and regulating level, flow, pressure, speed, temperature, etc., and Control equipment for Geo Pomona Waste Management.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs installation, tuning, and testing of new process controls and instruments.
• Understands and applies blueprints and technical diagrams.
• Responds to faulty emergency and makes timely repairs.
• Performs preventative and breakdown maintenance on instrumentation and control systems and components.
• Calibrate machines and field instruments as required by standard procedures and to OEM specifications.
• Collaborates with engineers, process technicians and other plant professionals to design or modify equipment and processes.
• Assists in raising requisition for the spare parts when the need arises.
• Completes in detail, all issued work orders for assigned tasks.
• Maintains records of repairs, calibrations, and tests and documents related processes.
• Ensures compliance with national legislation and international standards.
• Complies with all Safety, Health, and Environmental regulations in area of responsibility.
• Follows and enforces strict safety regulations including correct use of PPE and tools.
• Carries out housekeeping and ensures the area of responsibility complies to set housekeeping standards.
• Trains and supervises subordinates, apprentices, assistants and students.

Qualifications and Experience

1. Education
• Minimum National Diploma in Instrumentation and Control Engineering or equivalent qualifications.

2. Experience
• Minimum of 3 years post qualification experience for apprentice trained candidates or 5 years post qualifying experience for non-apprentice trained candidates in a relevant environment.
• Experience in power plant instrumentation is an added advantage

3. Certifications
• Certification in any SCADA or DCS system is an added advantage.
• Certification in PLCs programming is an added advantage.
• Clean Class 4 (four) driver’s licence is an added advantage.

4. Desired Competences
• Competent in SCADA systems and PLCs
• Working knowledge of radio networks and telemetry systems
• Team player
• Good analytical skills, communication and technical skills.
• Able to work with minimum supervision
