Financial Analyst – Branch Office (Full Time)

Job Description

The job exists to provide insightful financial information to key decision makers of PSI - USA in Zimbabwe by analyzing the organization’s current financial status, performance trends, expected future performance, and benchmarking against competitors. To prepare financial reports and develop and implement strategies to reduce businesses' operational and programming costs.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Designs and implements effective organization-wide financial performance monitoring, financial planning, and budgeting processes with appropriate systems to provide insight to key decision makers.
• Provides to key decision makers of the organization with insightful financial and operational performance information, historical and forecasted, using appropriate metrics, targets, and benchmarks.
• Leads financial analysis to identify trends, flag potential issues, and recommend actions to senior management.
• Leads the quarterly reviews of annual operating budget progress for senior management (surplus/deficit meetings).
• Collaborates with program management team to perform the Monthly Project Financial Review (MPFR) and analyse project budgets, actual expenses, commitments, obligations and burn rates.
• Prepares expenditure analysis, gap analysis, pipeline analysis, burn rates, variance analysis, activity status reports (ASR) and commitment listing to aid management decision making.
• Evaluates the organization’s performance using key data.
• Analyses the organization’s financial performance including trend analysis, variances and budget under/overruns including providing reasons and information to help on corrective actions.
• Oversees and manages the continued development of budgeting, financial forecasting, and operating plan.
• Participates in proposal development teams leading the budget development with a focus on appropriate costing models, alignment with proposed activity and staffing plans as well as maximizing cost recovery.
• Develops the annual operating budget for PSI – USA to determine surplus or deficit position which will guide decision making.
• Performs budget realignment and updating budgets. During the project, the program teams might decide to change their budgets to suit their targets. This therefore requires realigning the budgets and sending for approvals and to teams so that they can track their expenditure against the realigned budgets.
• Coordinates the creation of quarterly and annual forecasts, monitor the pipeline of bids and proposals, and perform a gap analysis.
• Prepares donor financial reports on an ad hoc, quarterly, and annual basis.
• Prepares monthly financial reports for each grant including Program Income (PI).
• Maintains a dashboard to monitor the financial health of the PSI Zimbabwe, including surplus/deficit, program income and overhead.
• Prepares stakeholder reports.

• Checks accuracy of expense allocation among donors in the system (right donor, account category and the right percentage split) after posting of transactions to the General Ledger.
• Makes recommendations for re-classification of journal entries as and when necessary.
• Offers support to peers on using Microsoft Excel functions such as VLOOKUP, Pivot tables etc. which helps them improve data presentation skills.
• Captures cash withdrawal payments and all deposits.
• Performs month end aging reports as per the requirement of the month end certification.
• Runs payments in QBE.
• Performs payroll allocations and bank charges monthly.
• Supports subaward monitoring and management, both for PSI subawards to sub partners, and PSI subawards from prime partners.
• Conducts expenditure reviews and participate in MPFR tracking of award compliance (STEPs, etc.).
• Facilitates PSI’s responses to prime partner request and assures compliance with all reporting, financial advancing, liquidation, and reporting.
• Any other responsibilities, as defined by the supervisor.

Qualifications and Experience

• Degree in Business Studies, Finance, Accounting.
• Full professional qualification e.g., ACCA, CIS is an added advantage.
• At least 3 years working experience.
• Able to work under pressure and attend to tasks at short notice.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
