Position: Finance Manager
Reports to: Country Director
Salary: $22,800 - 27,000 per annum
Supervises: Finance Team
Duty Station: Chitungwiza
Role Overview: Young Africa Zimbabwe is seeking a strategic, senior finance leader to serve as its Finance Manager. The incumbent will provide strategic direction over financial
management, internal controls, and donor and statutory compliance, and contribute to
organisational strategy, governance, and risk management. The role holder is expected to
operate at a strategic level.
Duties and Responsibilities
Key responsibilities
1. Strategic leadership and deputising
β Stand in for the Country Director on financial and compliance matters.
β Serve as a core member of the senior management team, contributing to
organisational strategy, sustainability planning, and risk management.
β Build institutional readiness for leadership succession, in partnership with the
Director and Board.
2. Financial strategy and oversight
β Own YAZ's financial management function, ensuring accurate, timely institutional
and project reporting to the Director and Board.
β Lead financial planning, budgeting, and cash flow strategy across the institution and
its projects.
β Advise the Director and Board on the financial implications of strategic decisions and
funding scenarios.
3. Governance, risk and internal control
β Set the direction and standards for internal controls across the organisation,
delegating operational execution to finance staff.
β Lead preparation for, and organisational response to, external and donor audits.
β Own YAZ's overall risk and compliance posture, escalating material risks to the
Director and Board.
4. Donor and statutory compliance
β Ensure organisation-wide compliance with donor agreements, statutory obligations
(ZIMRA, NSSA), and regulatory requirements.
β Represent YAZ to donors and external stakeholders on financial and compliance
matters.
5. Team leadership
β Lead, mentor, and build the capacity of the Finance and Administration team,
delegating day-to-day transactional work.
β Chair Finance and Compliance meetings and represent the function in senior
management forums.
Qualifications and Experience
Candidate Requirements
Qualifications
β Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration.
β A Master's degree and/or a professional accounting qualification (ACCA, CIMA, CA) is
strongly preferred.
Experience
β At least 5-8 years of progressive finance leadership experience, including 3+ years in
a senior management role within the NGO/donor-funded sector.
β Demonstrated experience managing multi-donor portfolios and donor compliance
requirements.
β Proven track record leading teams, advising executive leadership, and engaging
boards or governance structures.
β Knowledge of and vast experience with Sage Evolution 200 ERP
Core Competencies
β Strong strategic, analytical, and risk-management capability, with sound judgement
under pressure.
β High personal integrity.
β Excellent stakeholder engagement and representation skills, including with donors
and Board members.
β A clean Class 4 driver's licence is required.
