DRIVER (2 posts)
Reporting to the Fleet and Facilities Coordinator, the Driver plays a critical role in supporting the University’s operations by providing safe, reliable, and efficient transportation services to students, staff, stakeholders and partners. The Driver is responsible for operating University vehicles in full compliance with road safety regulations, institutional policies, and best practices in fleet management. This position demands a high level of professionalism, strong situational awareness, and a commitment to passenger safety, service excellence, and the University’s core values.

Safely transport students, staff, and authorized personnel to and from designated locations in a timely manner
Adhere strictly to traffic laws, road safety regulations, and University transport policies
Ensure orderly boarding and disembarking of passengers, maintaining discipline and safety at all times
Provide courteous and professional service to all passengers
Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure roadworthiness (brakes, lights, oil, tyres, fuel levels, etc.)
Monitor vehicle mileage and promptly report when servicing is due
Maintain cleanliness of the vehicle (interior and exterior) at all times
Track and report tyre condition, wear and tear, and general vehicle performance
Ensure all required documents (insurance, licence discs, permits) are valid and up to date
Promptly report all accidents, incidents, faults, and breakdowns in accordance with University procedures
Follow emergency procedures and assist in evacuation where necessary
Ensure compliance with health and safety standards, including passenger safety protocols
Avoid reckless driving, over-speeding, and unsafe practices at all times
Maintain accurate daily logbooks for each assigned vehicle
Update monthly mileage and fuel usage records
Submit timely reports on vehicle condition, incidents, and operational issues
Support transport logistics for official University events and activities
Safely transport dignitaries and guests when assigned
Perform any other duties as assigned by the Fleet and Facilities Coordinator
Zero tolerance for unsafe driving practices
High standards of punctuality and reliability
Compliance with all transport and safety regulations
Positive feedback from passengers and stakeholders
Proper maintenance and care of assigned vehicles
Qualifications and Experience
Desired Attributes:
Valid, clean Class One Driver’s Licence is a must
Valid Defensive Driving Certificate
Valid Medical Certificate confirming fitness to drive
Minimum of five (5) O’ Level passes including English Language
Must be below 55 years of age
Minimum of three (3) years’ proven relevant experience, preferably in a school, college, or university environment
Demonstrated knowledge of fleet management procedures, transport policies, and safety regulations
Good understanding of national road networks, routes, and traffic laws
Knowledge of occupational health and safety standards in transport operations
Experience in handling passengers in a service-oriented environment
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with emphasis on customer care
Commitment to upholding the University’s core values
High level of discipline, integrity, and reliability
Professional grooming and excellent deportment at all times
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Strong organizational and time-management skills
Ability to multitask and maintain accurate records
Discretion and ability to handle confidential information
Tact and diplomacy when dealing with students, staff, and dignitaries
Flexibility to work extended hours, weekends, or holidays when required
Calm demeanour and sound judgment under pressure or emergency situations
