VacancyHQ Expert Job Listing Tips

Job Application Tips

  1. CV Structure: What I have noticed over time is that a CV should be structured to highlight relevant skills. In this case, your driving experiences, any defensive driving training, vehicle maintenance, and administrative tasks like scheduling should be at the fore.
  2. Emphasizing Relevant Experience: In my experience, candidates must emphasize they have the 3 years of relevant experience required by the job offer, focusing on demonstrating responsible driving, schedule preparation, and vehicle cleaning.
  3. Education: Highlight your 5 Ordinary level passes on your CV, especially any that might be relevant to the duties listed.
  4. Professional Qualifications: Ensure that the clean Class 1 Driver's Licence and defensive driving certificate are clearly displayed. This instantaneously communicates your aptness for the job.
  5. Email Presentation: Make sure your email is professional and straight to the point, with "Class 1 Driver" in the subject line. Attach your CV and repeat your contact details in the body of the email.

Areas to Observe

  1. Application Deadline: The job offers in Zimbabwe often have strict deadlines. This job listing closes on 26 November 2023, so applications should be sent before that date.
  2. How to Apply: Applications must be submitted via email to [email protected]. It is common for job vacancies in Zimbabwe to request email submissions, so pay close attention to the email address.
  3. Subject Line: It's vital to label the subject line as indicated to avoid your application being overlooked or misfiled.
  4. Eligibility: Despite not meeting all the requirements, I've observed over the years that some employers in Zimbabwe might consider an application when the applicant strongly exhibits potential in other areas, like having more years of driving experience than required.
  5. Job Description: Pay close attention to the duties and responsibilities, incorporating them in your CV to demonstrate your understanding of what is expected in the role.

Stand Out Tips

  1. Taking Initiative: What will make you stand out in the job search in Zimbabwe is if you demonstrate instances where you took the initiative, like cases where you implemented a system that improved vehicle maintenance.
  2. Recommendations: If possible, including testimonials from previous employers in Zimbabwe related to your driving and professionalism can give you an edge.
  3. Go The Extra Mile: Discuss soft skills that weren't specifically mentioned in the job listing but are relevant. For example, demonstrate your punctuality, dependability, and exceptional knowledge of navigation and Zimbabwean roads.

Hidden Points

  1. Versatility: From the description, this role is not just about driving. The organisation is looking for a person who can handle administrative tasks and also maintenance; therefore, showing your ability to handle multiple roles will make you a strong candidate.
  2. Punctuality: Positions such as these tend to imply a need for punctuality without explicitly stating it. All driving jobs need timely services, and the subtle language used, such as 'errands' and 'deliveries', implies this.
  3. Obedience: The phrase 'any other duties that may be assigned by the supervisor' often goes overlooked by novice applicants. This denotes obedience and is highly regarded by employers, especially among jobs in ZW.

In my 15 years of career guidance consultancy, I've seen countless job vacancies in Zim, and I've noticed these to be the key tactics to successfully applying to them. I hope these tips will aid you in your application process and increase your employment opportunities in Zimbabwe.
