1. General Information
The Women and Law in Southern Africa Research and Education Trust (WLSA) is a registered Private Voluntary Organization (PVO 16/2016) established in 1989 to enhance the sustained well-being of women and girls in Southern Africa. Operating in Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, Malawi, Lesotho, Swaziland (Eswatini), and Mozambique, WLSA integrates research with action by challenging laws, campaigning for changes in policies, educating women and girls about their rights, providing legal advice, and gender sensitising communities and leadership. WLSA aims to promote the effective participation of women and girls in decisions that affect their lives.
2. Background
Women’s political participation in Zimbabwe faces significant structural and systemic challenges, severely limiting women's representation in electoral and political processes. Despite legal frameworks such as the Zimbabwe Constitution which guarantees 50/50 representation and efforts aimed at promoting gender equality, many women remain excluded from decision-making roles due to deep-rooted gender biases, Violence against women in elections and unequal access to resources.
Scope of Work
Profiling Women Politicians Elected and Candidates in the 2023 Elections Documentary is part of WLSA's ongoing efforts to challenge these barriers by showcasing the unique experiences of women politicians and candidates who participated in the 2023 elections. This activity aligns with the Women in Political Participation (WPP) project, aiming to increase the visibility and representation of women in politics.
3. Objectives of the Documentary
• To profile the experiences, challenges, and successes of women who participated as candidates or were elected in the 2023 elections.
• To raise awareness of gender equality issues in political participation.
• To inspire and motivate future generations of women leaders
Scope of Work
• The scope of the documentary includes the following:
• Pre-production: Planning, research, script development, and participant engagement.
• Production: Filming interviews, capturing campaign activities, and recording relevant footage.
• Post-production: Editing the footage, adding graphics and subtitles, finalizing the video, and creating promotional materials.
• Distribution: Public screenings, social media campaigns, and outreach through partner networks.
Deliverables
• A 5–10-minute documentary film showcasing the experiences of women politicians and candidates.
• Social media content and advocacy materials derived from the documentary.
Qualifications
• A degree or diploma in film production or related field.
• Proven experience in operating camera equipment and managing lighting and sound during shoots.
• Technical proficiency in camera settings, sound equipment, and lighting techniques.
• Previous experience working on documentary or similar film projects is an asset.
