Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for energetic, passionate, suitably qualified and self-driven individuals in one of the leading FMCG company in Zimbabwe to fill in the position of a Category Buyer. The role entails developing a dependable supply source and purchasing all materials to the exact business requirements, using company’s deals where specified, at competitive rates, within budget and ensuring deliveries are done within specified timelines to avoid stock outs. The ability to create, nurture and maintain business relationships with key suppliers is a requirement.

Duties and Responsibilities

Key Result Areas:
• Analyze customer buying patterns, understand seasonal trends, predict future trends and use scientific ordering, ensuring zero stock outs at all times.
• Develop and implement category strategies to drive sales and improve profitability.
• Source and negotiate with suppliers to ensure competitive pricing, quality, and delivery.
• Manage product assortment, pricing, and promotions to optimize sales performance.
• Establish good relationships with key suppliers to ensure best value for money and customer satisfaction with the services provided.
• Ensure effective contract management across the business with regular reviews, development of Service Level Agreements and key performance measures.
• Engage with the various departments to identify the key procurement priorities and ensure that resources are assigned accordingly.
• Manage the engagement of a procurement consultancy where specialist services are required.
• Update inventory and ensure that stock levels are kept at appropriate levels and stock integrity is maintained throughout the business at all times.
• Supervising and training junior members of staff when required.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate must have:
• Certificate/Diploma/Degree in Purchasing and Supply, Procurement, Marketing or Business Management.
• Diploma or Member of SIPPS is an added advantage.
• At least 5 years’ experience as a Buyer with solid working knowledge of the dynamics and statutes governing a retail organization and / FMCG sector.
• Strong organizational, negotiation, analytical, and prioritization skills.
• Experience in and natural ability to set standards, protocols, and operating procedures.
• Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced and often-changing environment.
